Cars... They're Built to Spill.

Charles Ray - Unpainted Sculpture (1997)
Power Pop has a story about HUMMER searching for a jingle liscencing deal, but being refused based on principle from musicians including The Thermals, TramsAm, and LiliPut. Rejected offers supposedly bulged from $50,000 to $180,000.
Why?
"We'll do anything BUT Hummer."
"It's not about the money. It's the principle."
"At least I can sleep without nightmares."

Beauty.

The new Built to Spill comes out April 11th, with a national tour following (tour dates here). "Goin Against Your Mind" is a quality single weighing in at over 8 minutes of structured guitar, repetitious vocals, and suprising emotional dynamics. Of jingle quality? Perhaps to convince Hummer's businessmen that they're still people under those oily profit piles.
