CONTEST: The Lovely Feathered Sparrows

Tim Hawkinson - Bird (1997)
[made of the artist's fingernail clippings]

Two lovely bands are currently operating under lovely avian monikers: The Lovely Feathers and The Lovely Sparrows. Both are creating blessed indie pop music and both are worth your time. To help keep them straight, I've assembled some contrasting facts about each... perhaps it would be fun to download both and blindly guess which is which.

New Releases
The Lovely Sparrows: About to release a new EP called Pulling Up Floors, Pouring on (New) Paint
The Lovely Feathers: Just released their latest CD Hind Hind Legs

The Lovely Sparrows: From Austin, Texas
The Lovely Feathers: From Montreal, Canada

The Lovely Sparrows: "Lush, complex arrangements with sing-along choruses that bring to mind glorious folk-infected pop"
The Lovely Feathers: "Blossomy, extractive post-punk-infused eccentric pop"

The Lovely Sparrows: Influenced by Bowie, Pavement, Destroyer
The Lovely Feathers: Influenced by its credible producers Jimmy Shaw (Broken Social Scene, Metric) and Drew Malamud (Dears, Stars, DFA1979)

The loveliest thing that I've heard in awhile is in the background of the Stars song "Look Up."

"And still in toil, it takes the heart to love the rose."
