Meg Baird and Greg Weeks (of Espers) join Will Oldham on a new album of covers called "Ask Forgiveness". The harmonies are quiet reinventions that stir the perfect consistency of balanced beauty, as you'd expect.
I totally agree, that is the power of a cover song to illuminate the song itself instead of the singer. Though R. Kelly is not all bad. And BPB could sing anything.

I know this is incredibly late, and for that I am sorry, but "The World's Greatest" is actually a good song now, unlike R. Kelly.
Ah, B"P"B!!!

I think the R. Kelly version (original) comes off as cheesy, whereas BPB come across as humble, genuine, and meaningful.
The best part of the BPB "The World's Greatest" song is when he says--
"Nobody 'axe' me why"
classic.
YES!
