Big News Items

Keith Haring - New York Post (1981)
Keith Haring is best known for his lovably cartoonish iconography of the 1980s that helped ease difficult communication of such issues as AIDS, apartheid, and nuclear arms. But beyond his tremendously popular aesthetic, Haring created grittier social commentaries including subversive messages via sensationalistic New York Times counterfeits like the piece displayed above. To me, recent political actions including the appointment of a FOX press secretary operate with a similar irony... but an irony that is uniquely constructed by the politicians themselves.

Was I the only one disappointed that Tony Snow didn't take advantage of his new position of influence to announce the following large news items?

1) Radiohead has announced US tour dates in June.

2) Bishop Allen's April release is out today. Buy it here. Checkout the previous post on the series if you're confused.

Bishop Allen - Flight 180 (mp3)

3) Sufjan Stevens is releasing a CD of Illinoise outtakes called The Avalanche for lovers of all things Sufjan (you know that means you) on 7/25.

Sufjan Stevens - The Henney Buggy Band (mp3)

Sufjan Stevens - Dear Mr. Supercomputer (mp3)
